Yo soy yo y mis circunstancias
Statement
English Text
My work is constructed from a critical rereading of the everyday, questioning what we take for granted and opening a broad space for reflection on the society we live in—across domains such as art, politics, morality, and the environment. I am interested in those aspects that society accepts as given: seemingly immutable universal truths, sedimented by centuries of hegemonic power. Through the aesthetic experience, I fracture these conventions to reveal new interpretations.
issues such as being borderline, the otherness, la sociedad de la información/desinformación or big data are key to understanding my work. It unfolds along lines close to a Duchampian spirit and the semiotic tradition, for which the sign is always a social convention rather than a natural reflection of things. This fracture opens the possibility of resignifying the familiar by deconstructing social and commercial archetypes—liberating the signifier from its pre-established meaning. This operation aligns with Baudrillard’s political economy of the sign, where capital functions as a system of signs that produces and circulates value. In contrast to the death of art proclaimed by Hegel from within traditional painting, I approach my practice from postmodernity, drawing on Arthur Danto’s reflections on the end of art and its multiple layers of interpretation.
I work with circulating objects and images, appropriating forms and symbols already produced and present in the market—symbols of currency, logos of major corporations, national flags, or maps—to reconfigure their meanings within the context of contemporary art. I do not seek creation ex nihilo, but rather the transformation of what already exists, generating a new way of looking at reality. I am interested in how, from the chaotic mass of information that besieges and alienates us in this globalized, interconnected world—from mass advertising to ephemeral news—it is possible to organize, modify, and create something singular and meaningful. My work situates itself at the intersection of the object-based, the symbolic, and the cultural, inviting reflection and questioning of the construction of the reality that surrounds us.
